The event Go With You – Accompanying students with visually impairment On April 16 th , 2023 Vietnam Visually Impaired Student Network organized the event Go With You 2023 with the topic “Shining your dreams” under the support of Vietnam Blind Association (VBA) and Training and Rehabilitation Center for the Blind (TRC). Participating in the event directly and online via zoom, there are Dr. Ta Ngoc Tri, Standing Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for Education of Children with Disabilities and Children with difficult situations - Ministry of Education and Training, Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Hien, Dean of the Faculty of Public Relations and Advertising – Academy of Journalism and Communication, leaders of VBA at headquarter and local branches, teachers of TRC and many visually impaired students.

 

Ms. Dinh Viet Anh, VBA vice president shared in her opening remark: “Since its establishment, VBA has always identified the importance of education. With the desire to accompany and support the visually impaired students in their life and study, VBA has established the Vietnam Visually Impaired Student Network. Besides listening to student’s opinions and wishes in order to have appropriate supporting activities, VBA always encourages and facilitates them to promote their proactiveness, positivity and creativity to organize sharing and mutual supporting activities in the network as well as to contribute to the equality, progress and integration of the visual impairment in particular and the disabled in general. The event Go With You is an annual activity of the network in order to provide knowledge about policies and laws, to share experiences, answer their questions and inspire in learning and work for students with visual impairment, especially for those who are preparing for their universities”. The event Go With You 2023 consists of two main parts: the speaking contest by pupils, students, graduated students with visual impairment, and a talkshow by invited speakers. Starting from March 15 th 2023, the preliminary round of the speaking contest took place very excitingly. Visually impaired pupils, students and graduated students shared their dreams and experiences in their integration studying through the audio file. In the final round, the best 6 contestants made an unforgettable impression on the participants. They shared their dreams to express themselves, to contribute to the community and change the awareness of the society to the visually impaired person. The dream of Ms. Vu Thi Hai Anh from Center for Continuing Education and Vocational Education Nguyen Van To is a journalist, a professional MC. Mr. Tran Viet Hoang, a student of Fulbright University Vietnam - a future computer programmer, dreams of disseminating knowledge and skills of computer programming for the visually impaired persons. The contestant La Minh Truong, a student of Vietnam Youth Academy dreams of becoming a social worker to support people in difficult situations, etc. Many useful experiences and meaningful messages have been expressed through their presentations.

The Organizing Committee awarded 02 first prizes, 02 second prizes, 02 third prizes, 05 Potential prizes, 05 Prospect prizes and 01 Shining your dream prize for contestants.

The Talkshow part was the participation of Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Hien - Dean of the Faculty of Public Relations and Advertising – Academy of Journalism and Communication, Ms. Dinh Viet Anh - VBA vice president, Ms. Pham Thi Hue - Vice Chairman of Blind Association of Luong Tai district - an English teacher for hundred sighted students, and Ms. Nghiem Thu Loan - Head of Vietnam Visually Impaired Student Network, a student of RMIT International University and the author of 2 published books. The speakers brought to students knowledge about policies and laws for people with disabilities; useful information and experiences as well as inspire them with positive energy and values.

The event Go With You 2023 has really helped the visually impaired pupils and students to have more valuable knowledge, unforgettable memories, more energy and confidence to make them more determined to strive in their life and learning, continue to shine their dreams, build a happy future and contribute to their family and the society.
